Instructor's Bio

The founder and instructor, Michael I. Goode, has played Assistant Principal and Section Trumpet
with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as a member of the Ravinia Festival Orchestra,
located at Ravinia, the summer home of the Chicago Symphony. With this orchestra, Mr. Goode also has
backed soloists from the Metropolitan Opera of New York. In addition, he has played in numerous professional
orchestras across the country among famous conductors like Erich Kunzel, David Alan Miller, and Leonard Slatkin.
He has served as Principal Trumpet of the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony Orchestra, a professional
symphony here in Los Angeles. Mr. Goode was recently accepted to teach at Gustavo Dudamel's Youth Orchestra
of Los Angeles program as a fill-in teacher in Maestro Dudamel's El Sistema program in LA.
He currently also has teaching studios in Marina del Rey and El Segundo, CA.
A former Comeback player himself, Mr. Goode years ago went from buzzing his mouthpiece 30 seconds a day
to playing professionally with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the highest artistic levels.
He has been fortunate to have as his teachers, the legendary Adolph "Bud" Herseth, and Arnold Jacobs,
with whom he studied simultaneously since 1994. Mr. Goode is also a world-renowned expert on the topic of
stage fright and the nervous system and mental performance issues related to playing music and has written
a book on the subject. For more information on Mr. Goode, see www.trumpetworkspress.com.

Program and Schedule

All teaching will be based on all the things Mr. Goode has have learned from studying with Adolph Herseth and Mr.
Jacobs for many years and from his professional experiences playing with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
in the Ravinia Festival Orchestra and elsewhere. In addition, as someone has already suggested, he will be talking about
stage fright and mental performance issues which he does for a living in addition to the trumpet based on his work
in graduate school at the University of Chicago. Michael wants to give all the Comebackers tools that they can take with them
so they have a solid foundation in their playing in the same way that he has have been so fortunate to learn from his teachers.

The hours of the camp, group lessons and seminars will be 10 am-noon, 2-4 pm, noon-2 pm is lunch.

The days will each have interactive group lessons on every topic (the final order may be slightly different):

We will cover the following topics (the list is not exhaustive I may add more):

Breathing
Buzzing
Tone and Sound Production
Solfeggio Sight-Singing (based on Jacobs via Tabuteau)
Dynamics
Scales
Range
Articulation
Endurance
Intonation
Rhythm
Phrasing
Musical Style and Storytelling
Equipment
Repertoire
Stage Fright and Mental Performance Issues
Health and Fitness and the Trumpet

The group lessons will be open for much Q&A and each person will also get
a private lesson.

The length of the private lesson will depend on how many people we end up with.

The charge for all the sessions for the entire week if you pay by February 15th, 2011 is $500.
You will have to pay for your own transportation, food, lodging and any social event costs .
We have secured for everybody a discount rate at the Foghorn Harbor Inn nearby.
It's five days of intense help to get your playing where you want it no matter what level of comebacker you are!!

No Auditions

There will be NO AUDITION for this camp. I will also make adjustments and allowances
for everybody's level and be sensitive to it so more advanced comebackers will be challenged
and newer ones will be encouraged as much as possible.

For those who may be interested, there will be optional social events or outings depending on the interest
of the campers. Some possible group outings planned after camp hours in the evening are self-guided trips
to the Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, Beach Volleyball, even Hollywood, I am open to suggestions as these
are all possible for individuals who would like to socialize after camp hours. So there will be optional Comeback
