On March 12, the Chicago Reading Orchestra had its debut concert at DePaul Concert Hall at 3pm Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 800 W. Belden in Lincoln Park, Chicago along with the DePaul Community Chorus in a program with Mozart Vesparae and Ave Verum Corpus. The DePaul Community Chorus is conducted by Stephen Blackwelder, and conducted the Chicago Reading Orchestra and his chorus in the Mozart program to a standing room only packed house to an ovation. The orchestra was so well-received that in a break with tradition, guest conductor Blackwelder announced to the crowd after the first piece that the orchestra was so good “that they will be back.”

The orchestra, founded in March 2005 by Mr. Goode, is composed of professional players including former members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and other highly regarded ensembles in Chicago and around the world. Its regular conductor, Kim Diehnelt, spent 10 years conducting in Finland and Eastern Europe.

The Chicago Reading Orchestra is unique in the world. It not only performs publicly, but also serves as a professional development orchestra for post-graduate professional players and retired major symphony alumni as well as adult professionals who wish to improve their professional skills as players. The orchestra offers daytime major orchestral repertoire reading sessions twice weekly and mock auditions, as well as individualized audition coaching for major symphonic auditions.
